First Conference of CC BME a Success

On Friday, May 18th, 2012 at its first public conference, representatives of the Competence Center of Biomedical Engineering (CC BME) presented a series of projects carried out within a three-year program of the CC BME.

Mag. Zore Lukin, head of the CC BME, emphasized the importance of partnership and the integration of knowledge within the CC BME for improving business competitiveness: »We expect that the result of the three-year cooperation of the twelve partners will be 17 new products, 15 patents and 50 innovations, but most of all, the long term continuation and extension of the partners’ cooperation after the completion of the program’s co-financing«. The conference was held within the second LAHA international symposium, which brought together 80 top clinical experts from around the world to Portoroz, Slovenia.

Second Annual LAHA Symposium

The second annual LAHA symposium, organized by the Laser and health academy (LAHA) on the 17th and 18th of May in Portoroz, Slovenia, brought together 80 clinical experts from around the world in the fields of dentistry, aesthetics & dermatology, surgery and gynecology.

During the symposium, dr. Maša Goršič, the director of LAHA, highlighted outstanding achievements in the field of gynecology, such as the world’s most advanced approach for laser treatment of stress urinary incontinence – developed by the Slovenian company Fotona. The symposium also held the first conference of the Competence Center of Biomedical Engineering, in which the participating partners presented projects aimed at developing some of the world’s most exciting biomedical devices for the public market.

CC BME workshop on the development of innovation

On Thursday, April 26th, 2012 at the premises of the Laser and Health academy (LAHA), a workshop was held by the Competence Center of Biomedical Engineering (CC BME), which was attended by representatives of the consortium partners that comprise the CC BME.

The centerpiece of the workshop was the presentation of the results of five development projects managed by consortium partners: MINMED, SmartMed, PhysiCoDerm, SAMinZDRAV and TOF-PET. A public presentation of the achievements originating from the above projects will be held on the 18th of May, 2012 in Portoroz, Slovenia.

We will be engineers!

Why is it good for students to choose the career path of an engineer? On Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 at the premises of Bežigrad gymnasium, a meeting was held in which five experienced engineers fascinated young high school students with their discussion of the engineering profession.

The event was attended by dr. Marko Marinček director of development at Fotona, a CC BME member. In addition to dr. Marinček, the event was also attended by Aleša Kandus Benčina, CEO of Medex, dr. Mojca Japelj Fir, head of development projects at the CBS institute, mag. Anton Petrič, director of Cisco Systems and Robert Pistotnik, CEO of SINTAL.

2. Program board meeting completed

On Friday, 9 December 2011, at the premises of the Laser and Health Academy, the second meeting of the Program Council of the Competence Center of Biomedical Engineering (CC BME) was held, attended by representatives of the CC BME’s partner organizations.

The objective of the meeting was to present the results of the following research and development projects: MINMED, SmartMed, PhysiCoDerm, SAMinZDRAV and TOF-PET. Progress achieved in each of these areas was presented by project managers from the related companies: Fotona, Optotek, Iskra Medical, Gorenje and Instrumentation Technologies. The Competence Center members agreed that the projects are running in accordance with the stated mission of the CC BME.
